Gadsden area football rankings: How did last week's clashes shake up the standings

Here are the all-class power rankings ahead of week five of the high school football season in the Gadsden area. All 27 teams, regardless of class, in the Gadsden Times coverage zone are eligible to be ranked.

ONEONTA KICKER:Alabama high school football: Oneonta one-armed kicker Gus Sokira inspires his team and others

1. Cherokee County (4-0)

The Warriors and Jacob Cornejo ran all over Oneonta to take control of the region and show that they should be considered as state title contenders, again. Last Week: No. 1, 49-21 win over Oneonta; This week: Home vs. Hanceville

2. Gadsden City (3-1)

The Titans made a major statement with a Week 3 win over Fort Payne and in doing so they took control of the region. Last Week: No. 2, 63-41; This week: Road vs. Hartselle

3. Geraldine (4-0)

The Bulldogs have four straight wins to open the season and have shown no sign of slowing down. Last week: 4, 17-7 win over Hokes Bluff; This week: Road vs. Sylvania

4. Coosa Christian (2-1)

Coosa Christian has put together back-to-back shutouts and three straight wins. Last Week: No. 3, 49-0 win over Decatur Heritage Christian; This week: Road vs. Valley Head

5. Jacksonville (3-1)

The Jacksonville offense got back on track in a major way on Friday, with its biggest total of the season. Last Week: No. 5, 52-24 win over Anniston; This week: Road vs. Talladega

6. Fyffe (2-1)

Fyffe has won back to back games, both with shutouts after an opening season loss, proving that they are still a force in Class 2A. Last Week: No. 6, 54-0 win over Whitesburg Christian; This week: road vs. Section

7. Southside (3-1)

The Panthers are on a three game win streak, the last two coming with star QB Gauge Nesmith, showing the versatility this squad has. Last Week: No. 7, 35-21 win over Springville; This week: Road vs. St. Clair County

8. Fort Payne (2-2)

The Fort Payne offense looked the part to start but struggled as the game went on, and they suffered their second loss of the season. Last week: 8, 63-41 Loss to Gadsden City; This week: bye

CHEROKEE COUNTY:Jacob Cornejo's major statement pushes Cherokee County past Oneonta

9. Sardis (2-1)

Sardis fell for the first time on Friday but held their own with the defending champions, showing how much this team has grown. Last week: 9, 29-26 loss to Arab; This week: road vs. Columbia

10. Pisgah (3-0)

Pisgah boat raced Collinsville, knocking them out the rankings. Pisgah has shown improvement each week, raising the margin of victory and points scored each week. Last week: NR, Won 66-13 at Collinsville; This week: Home vs. Ider

Dropped from rankings: Collinsville
