VIDEO: Man suspected of killing another man detained by witnesses

A man was stabbed to death on Wednesday in downtown Fresno and the suspect was detained by people who witnessed the murder.

The stabbing happened around 12:30 p.m. near The Poverello House, located at 412 F St.

Fresno police officers responded to the scene and located 44-year-old Steven Christian suffering from a stab wound to his chest.

Christian was taken to CRMC where he died during surgery.

Homicide detectives learned that the incident occurred in front of several people that were using the facilities.

Several staff members from the Poverello House were able to catch and detain the suspect who was trying to run away.

The suspect was identified as 45-year-old Daniel Salinas.

Several witnesses identified Salinas as the person who confronted the victim and ultimately stabbed him.

Salinas was booked into the Fresno County Jail on one count of murder.

Both Christian and Salinas are part of the homeless community in Fresno.

Investigators are reviewing video surveillance from the location to determine the motive for the crime.
