The Fresno Police Department has released body cam video of an officer-involved shooting that took place on December 23, 2022.

In this critical incident video, we see officers were called to a 7-Eleven near the 2300 block of South Chestnut Ave.

A caller stated a woman was hiding inside the store from her boyfriend, now identified as 37-year-old Michael Alvarez after claiming she had been assaulted.

According to the caller also inside the store, the woman escaped the car and ran into the 7-Eleven for help.

When police arrived on scene, Alvarez was seen parked right in front of the store. He was given multiple commands but refused to comply, as seen on video.

A third officer arrives and blocks in the driver. The suspect is seen attempting to reverse the car but crashes into the patrol vehicle. During this time, one of the officers standing by the driver’s side was struck.

He even crashed into a neighboring vehicle with a pregnant woman inside.

Alvarez continued to drive the car recklessly in the small parking lot which led to shots being fired.

The suspect was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

Following his discharge, he was arrested and now faces the following charges: Felony Domestic Violence, three counts of Felony Assault on a Police Officer, Felony Assault with a deadly weapon, and Post Release Community Supervision violation.
