Bullard volleyball coach celebrates 900th career win

FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A legendary Valley high school coach achieved a major milestone Thursday night.

FOX26 sports reporter Vanessa Romo was there to witness the moment.

The boy's volleyball team hosted Reedley at Bullard High.

Bullard sealed the win 3 to zero to hand Coach Roy Verduzco his 900th career win.

"It's really hard to imagine," said Coach Verduzco. "There's been so many great teams and so many wonderful young men that I've had a chance to work with and see them grow and develop."

Verduzco has been coaching the boy's volleyball team since 1984.

He's led the Knights to 30 league titles and seven Valley championships in his 40 seasons.

"I got interviewed and hired when I was 21 years old," said Verduzco. "They took a chance on me. I had never coached before."

Coach Verduzco says he has not made a decision about the future just yet.

"We've got a great freshman class, we've got 4 freshmen on varsity and it'd be really fun to see if I can see them through their senior year and then kind of make a decision after that," said Verduzco.
