High water flow from recent storms is now prompting a rare flood release across Fresno, Kings, and Tulare Counties.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports we could have a record runoff season.

Water is being released from Pine Flat Dam into the Tulare Lakebed.

At last check, Pine Flat Reservoir is at 78 percent capacity.

The boosted flows are meant to make more room for snowmelt and rain ahead of the next storm.

They will raise flows by 500 cubic feet per second every day until they hit their target flow of 1,500 cubic feet.

We're told these water releases could last until summer.

That means flooding could be a problem along the Kings River.

Conditions will be consistently evaluated.

Authorities are asking families and businesses to be aware of the danger and obey local, regional, and state warnings.
