Regulation now limits one person per tube on Victory Lake and Lake #10 in Fremont Lakes

Regulation now limits one person per tube on Victory Lake and Lake #10 in Fremont Lakes
IMPLEMENTED AT TWO LAKES IN FREMONT STATE RECREATION AREA. THEY DEAL WITH TUBES BEING PULLED BEHIND, BOATS, NO WAIT TIMES AND NO MORE KAYAKS OR CANOES ON THE LAKES. NEBRASKA GAMING PARK SAYS THE DECISIONS BASED ON SAFETY. BUT TUBERS IN THE AREA SAY THEY’RE NOT THRILLED WITH THE CHANGE. KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN’S KYLE LARSON HAS THEIR REACTION FROM THE PARK. A NEW SET OF REGULATIONS GOES INTO EFFECT. PERMANENT LEAVE FOR ALL WHO VISIT FREMONT STATE LAKES. OH, REALLY? DIDN’T KNOW THAT WAS HAPPENING. ONE OF THE REGULATIONS. NO MORE THAN ONE PERSON CAN BE TOWED BEHIND A BOAT ON VICTORY. LAKE OR LAKE TEN. BILL BOOTH WITH NEBRASKA GAMING PARK SAYS THE DECISION FOR THE ADDED RULE WAS SIMPLE DUE TO THE SIZE AND THE BUSYNESS OF THE LAKE, JUST SAFETY VICTORY LAKE AND LAKE TEN ARE THE ONLY LAKES WITHIN THE PARK THAT ARE MOLDABLE. THE RULES GOT PUT TO THE TEST MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND WHEN THE LAKE SAW LARGE CROWDS. THEY’LL ALWAYS BE AN ADJUSTMENT PERIOD FOR ANYTHING THAT’S CHANGED FOR EVERY PERSON THAT WAS FOR IT. THERE WAS A, YOU KNOW, ONE AGAINST IT, BOOTH SAYS. ONE ADVANTAGE TO THIS RULE IS THAT IF SOMEONE IS ON THE WATER FOLLOWING BEHIND A TUBER AND THAT TUBER FALLS OFF, THAT PERSON NOW KNOWS THEY’RE LOOKING FOR ONE PERSON IN THE WATER RATHER THAN 3 OR 4. TAKING THE EXAMPLE OF WHAT WE DO, WE ALWAYS HAVE SOMEONE RIDING ON THE BACK OF THE JET SKI WATCHING. IF ANYONE FALLS OFF. SO THERE’S NO REAL DANGER OF LEAVING SOMEONE BEHIND. CALEB LUDLOW WAS TUBING AT THE PARK WITH HIS FAMILY WEDNESDAY. HE SAID IT’S NOT UNCOMMON FOR THEM TO HAVE MULTIPLE PEOPLE ON ONE TUBE. HE COULD DO WITHOUT THE RULE. I DON’T THINK I LIKE THAT VERY MUCH. NOT GONNA LIE LOW RECOGNIZES THE RULE IS ABOUT SAFETY. AND THAT’S WHY BOOTH AND HIS COLLEAGUES ADDED IT. EVERYBODY WANTS TO, YOU KNOW, RECREATE SAFE. NOTHING RUINS A WEEKEND LIKE AN ACCIDENT OR. OR WORSE ON ON A LAKE FOR, YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU’RE JUST TRYING TO HAVE A GOOD TIME I

The regulations are just for Fremont State Recreation area. They are not across all parks in Nebraska or permanent for any state parks or Game & Parks permanent rules everywhere.

Booth said it's important to "know before you go" to see what the rules are in each park and on each lake you intend on visiting.

Kaleb Ludlow visited the park with his family to tube just after Memorial Day and wasn't aware of the rule that only allows one person on a tube - the first regulation.

Ludlow understands the rules are for everyone's safety but that he and his family often have a 'spotter' on the back of their personal watercraft, which eliminates any sense of danger, according to Ludlow.

Booth said one benefit to the rule is that if one person is tubing, instead of three or four, and a boat following behind the tubers sees the tuber fall off, they know they're looking for one person in the water rather than three or four.
