New Jersey mom pleads in drug overdose death of 2-year-old son

FREEHOLD, NJ – Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Thursday that Quanique Smith, a 26-year-old Asbury Park woman, pleaded guilty to a single count of second-degree Aggravated Manslaughter.

Theplea relates to the death of her 2-year-old son, who overdosed on drugs earlier this year.

On Thursday, January 5, Asbury Park Police Department found the child unresponsive in an apartment on the 100 block of Langford Street.


The child was rushed to a local hospital but pronounced dead shortly before 2 a.m. Smith will face a sentence of eight years in state prison at the sentencing scheduled for Thursday, September 7.
