No Charges Filed Against Two Frederick Police Involved In Fatal Shooting

The investigation continues.

Frederick, Md (KM) The two Frederick Police Officers who shot and killed a man earlier this month will not be charged. A statement from Chief Jason Lando says the State’s Attorney’s Office has declined to place charges against Officers. Robert Hess and Fahad Mirza, and they have been cleared to return to duty.

On March 4th, 2023, the two officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of North East Street to locate Joseph Sherill, 44, who was wanted for a parole violation. They found Sherill hiding in a closet. Police say Sherrill was armed with a knife. After repeated demands for him to drop the knife, the officers discharged their weapons. . After shots were fired, they rendered aid, but Sherill was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chief Lando says the Maryland Attorney General’s Office Independent Investigations Division is continuing to look into this police-involved shooting. “Further comment from the FPD will be shared upon completion of the IID’s investigation and report,” he says in his statement.
