Three Romanian people have been arrested in connection to multiple burglaries and thefts that have been happening in Maryland and Pennsylvania, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office said detectives arrested 43-year-old Stefan Chicui, 41-year-old Anisora Nistor and 33-year-old Ana Maria Velcu on out of state warrants on March 15.
Following their arrest, the sheriff's office said the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed detainers on all three individuals.
"ICE lodges detainers on individuals arrested on criminal charges who ICE has probable cause to believe are removable citizens. Velcu and Nistor are also wanted by Interpol," the sheriff's office said.
Throughout their investigation, detective learned that these group of people often travel long distances from their home, mostly in Baltimore.
The sheriff's office said they mostly use mini vans of all makes, models and color, with out of state vehicle plates.
The groups are known to target occupied residences, the sheriff's office said, and use distraction techniques to commit thefts and burglaries. They also target unoccupied homes and commit forced entry burglary and theft.
“We believe that there are several groups in the region committing these crimes,” said Lt. Andy Crone, FCSO Criminal Investigations Section commander. “We ask the public to remain alert to these crime trends, despite these recent arrests, and contact 301-600-2071 if you see anything suspicious.”
