Attorney General Daniel Cameron holds Operation Fight Fentanyl Forum

FRANKLIN, Ky.-Attorney General Daniel Cameron held an Operation Fight Fentanyl Forum in Franklin on Monday afternoon.

Cameron introduced a panel of speakers including first responders, law enforcement, drug prosecutors, and a mother who lost her son to fentanyl.

Three years ago, Julie Hofmans lost her 23-year-old son Wyatt to a fentanyl overdose after he took what he thought was xanax.

Fentanyl is now the number one cause of death for Americans aged 18 to 45. Cameron said what makes it so dangerous is its potency, and that it’s nearly undetectable to the naked eye.

“In 2021, Kentucky lost 2,250 individuals to overdoses in the commonwealth and 70% of that was because of fentanyl,” said Cameron.

Warren County Judge-Executive Doug Gorman, who was at the event, said that just last month alone, there were 160 overdoses reported between Med Center Health and TriStar Greenview.
