Officials say new Gillette Stadium upgrades will feature servicemen more prominently

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — In the spirit of Memorial Day, Gillette Stadium officials announced on Monday that new upgrades to their stadium seating will be used to honor those who fought for our country.

The “Row of Honor”, which was a section of the stands reserved for invited servicemembers, will now be expanded and featured more prominently at future events.

The upgrade consists of eight red seats permanently placed next to the stadium’s POW/MIA seat, which is a seat left permanently unoccupied in recognition of the many soldiers who are prisoners of war or missing in action, according to officials. New renderings also show a 5-foot high by 30 feet wide LED video board right in front of the “Row of Honor” section so that customized videos, names, and branches of the military can be displayed during events.

Similarly, the section will be located in the center of the north end of the stadium, directly under the new 22-story lighthouse, officials say.

The project is part of a $250 million investment in upgrades to the north end of Gillette Stadium, marking the biggest in-stadium improvements since its opening in 2002.

“We owe all servicemembers a debt of gratitude that we can never fully repay,” said Chairman and CEO of the Kraft Group, Robert Kraft. “The Row of Honor is just one way we continue to support and give back to these brave Americans and I look forward to welcoming these patriots to Foxborough for years to come.”

The previous “Row of Honor” was activated at Patriots and Revolution games, but the Kraft Group announced servicemembers will be invited to sit their for additional ticketed stadium events, including concerts.

The construction is scheduled to be finished prior to the 2023 NFL season.
