    Homemade explosive device found during traffic stop in Eden; 1 arrested, police say

    EDEN, N.C. (WGHP) — A man was arrested after a homemade explosive device was found in his car during a traffic stop, the Eden Police Department reported.

    According to a press release, on Sunday around 3:30 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a blue Chevrolet truck for allegedly displaying a fake license plate.

    After speaking to the driver and passenger, officers began a search for illegal narcotics and found a controlled substance and a homemade, undetonated explosive device.

    The Greensboro Police Department’s Hazardous Devices Team arrived on the scene and took the explosive.

    After warrants were obtained, Jesse Wayne Price, 49, of Eden, was charged with one count of felony weapons of mass destruction and one misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance.

    Price was taken to the Rockingham County Magistrate’s office and given a $35,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 17.
