(FOX40.COM) — A man was stabbed on a train Sunday night, the Fairfield Police Department said.

According to police, an Amtrak conductor reported to police that around 10:31 p.m. as the train entered Fairfield, a man allegedly stabbed another person on board and was “possibly holding another person hostage.”

Police boarded the train at the Fairfield-Vacaville Amtrak station and found a 21-year-old man with two stab wounds. The man was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.

Police said officers encountered a man with a knife but determined he was another victim who had taken the knife from the suspect and was “bravely holding him at bay” until help arrived.

The suspect was taken into custody and is facing “various charges including attempted murder, false imprisonment, and violation of post-release community supervision.”

According to police, neither victim was known to the suspect.
