(FOX40.COM) — A man’s body was found in the American River on Friday by the Sacramento Fire Department, the agency said.

According to officials, crews were called to 7900 La Riviera Drive, near the Howe Avenue River Access point to the American River, around 3:15 p.m.

“Crews got on scene and found a body,” Sac Fire said. “It was found by a guy on his boat.”

NWS uses recent rise in temperatures to remind Northern California residents of water safety

Officials told a FOX40 team member at the scene that the body was a man who appeared to be in his 50s.

“The boater spotted him 8 feet under the water. No drowning was witnessed but it must have happened recently because if it was days ago the body would be floating,” officials added.
