KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Police in Kansas City, Kansas were called to dispose of a Claymore mine on Friday.

Someone found the explosive while walking through an abandoned home in the Quivira Hills Estates Mobile Home Park.

Explosives have been found several times in the Kansas City metro in the past month alone.

One shell was discovered in Overland Park in August. No one knows where it was found or who found it. It was dropped off at a donation site.

“When an employee saw it, they did the right thing by contacting the police department. Have us come out and check it out,” said Officer John Lacy with Overland Park police.

Now a Claymore mine was found in a KCK neighborhood. The only way to safely dispose of these explosives is to call police.

“You don’t know what it is,” Lacy said. “It looks like it could be anything that could be explosive, give us a call, we’ll come out and we’ll take care of it.”

Lacy told FOX4 that many times, people just stumble upon these ordinances and if you find one, whatever it is, safety is the number one priority.

“We’re not trying to charge, we’re not going to ask 5,000 questions. If it’s something that grandpa had in his shed, or something like that, let us come out, let us take a look at it and we’ll go from there,” Lacy added.
