KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City celebrated Red Wednesday at McDonald’s locations across the metro.

Fans were able to purchase special edition ‘back-to-back champions’ flags.

Ronald McDonald House volunteers were up early to sell the Red Wednesday flags.

Last year, the flags raised one million dollars for RMHC of Kansas City, and the team was hoping to raise just as much this year.

“For the last 11 years, we’ve been blessed to partner with the Ronald McDonald House and support the great work that they do in the community,” said Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt.

The Bekos family is one of many who have benefited from a Ronald McDonald house charity.

“Hayley is our miracle. I mean, we never thought she was going to live. So that’s the best part- she’s living her best life,” said Jeff Bekos. “She graduated from Temple University in three and a half years and is now working for a digital marketing company focused on nonprofit organizations.”

Jeff Bekos is riding his bicycle from coast to coast to raise awareness and money for Ronald McDonald House Charities across the country.

Jeff started his 4,600-mile bike ride in California in July, and is expected to get home to Philadelphia in October.

But he stopped in Kansas City just in time for Red Wednesday.

“This is our eighth house. It’s been phenomenal meeting this team and staff at these different houses, meeting families, and, you know, sharing stories,” Bekos said.

All of the money raised through Red Wednesday flag sales will support the Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City’s mission to help families with the emotions and logistics of childhood illness treatments.

Staffers with RMHC of Kansas City say the Red Wednesday tradition not only benefits the non-profit financially, but also brings a lot of joy to parents and children at RMHC KC.
