Kansas lottery player hits it big with $1 million Mega Millions prize

TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – A Mega Millions ticket worth $1 million was sold in Kansas Tuesday.

The Kansas Lottery reports on its unclaimed prizes website that a $1 million ticket was sold in the southeast region of the state on Sept. 3, 2024. One other ticket for the Mega Millions ‘Match 5’ prize was sold Tuesday as well in Mississippi, according to the Mega Millions website .

The numbers for the Mega Millions drawing on Sept. 3 were 12-41-43-52-55 with a gold ‘Mega Ball’ of 9 . The current estimated jackpot prize is $681 million with a cash option of $337.1 million. Counties the ticket could have been sold in include:

• Lyon (southern half)
• Coffey
• Anderson
• Linn
• Greenwood
• Woodson
• Allen
• Bourbon
• Elk
• Wilson
• Neosho
• Crawford
• Chautauqua
• Montgomery
• Labette
• Cherokee

The winner of the $1 million prize drawn in Kansas has one year to collect the money before it is returned to the lottery. In Kansas, the prize will be subjected to the standard 24% federal and 5% state tax, bringing it down to $710,000.
