FORT WORTH, Texas — A drug trafficker from Fort Worth, who was found in possession of eight firearms, including one stolen from Tarrant County law enforcement, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison, announced U.S. Attorney Leigha Simonton.

Juan Carlos Perez, a 20-year-old resident of Fort Worth, was charged in November 2022 and pleaded guilty in February to conspiracy to possess controlled substances with the intent to distribute. U.S. District Judge Reed C. O'Connor handed down the sentence on Friday.

During the plea proceedings, Perez admitted to conspiring to distribute methamphetamine, including counterfeit pills laced with methamphetamine.

According to court documents, law enforcement officials discovered eight firearms, including two AM-15s and two 9mm Glock pistols, at Perez's apartment. One of the Glock pistols had been reported stolen by a Tarrant County Detention Officer.

Further investigation revealed that Perez's phone contained multiple photos and videos depicting firearms, narcotics, and substantial amounts of U.S. currency.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives’ Dallas Field Office, in collaboration with the Fort Worth Police Department, conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Levi Thomas prosecuted the case.

Please note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
