Woman Who Took Her Car For Wash After a Bird Got Caught in the Grill Then Found Another Issue: a Groundhog in the Bumper

Workers at Jiffy Lube had to take apart the woman's vehicle to get it out

Car wash employees discovered a groundhog stuck in the front bumper of a woman’s vehicle during her original intent for the wash: a bird stuck in her front grill.

Workers from Mike’s Car Wash in Fort Wayne, Indiana, enlisted the help of employees at a nearby Jiffy Lube after finding something odd in the woman’s bumper: a groundhog.

As reported by WPTA , the car wash employees asked for assistance from Jiffy Lube employees, who called Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control. After discussing the best plan of action, they were told that they would need to take the car apart in order to rescue the groundhog.

“It was definitely an odd day at work. Last thing I expected was to be pulling apart a front bumper to remove a groundhog. He was cute but definitely mad that we were trying to take him from his warm home,” Dalton Brenneke, the manager on duty at Jiffy Lube, told WPTA.

He added, “We ended up having to take off the front skid plate to give him room to leave the engine bay. After we got him out, he ran to the back of the car and hopped up in the rear suspension. Had to take off the left rear tire to get him out.”

Photos of the rescue were posted to Facebook , garnering more than 100 reactions and dozens of comments from community members. Some users wrote that the animal was “cute,” while others joked, “How’d he expect to find his shadow in there?”

Those involved in the dramatic rescue ended up voting to name the groundhog “Mike.” An FWACC officer later took the groundhog from the lot.

The woman was not charged for the services to remove the critter. However, Brenneke said that Mike wound up angrily chewing through some wires in the woman’s car which ended up costing her about $500 in repairs.
