FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- Several sectional championship droughts ended, while other sectional championship runs continued, as area teams competed for sectional titles on Monday.
In Class 4A, DeKalb claimed their first sectional title since 2002 with a 3-2 victory over Snider. The Barons scored a run in the second inning and two in the third to cap their scoring, while the Panthers plated runs in the first and sixth. Parker Smith pitched a complete game, allowing two unearned runs with eight strikeouts in the win.
Elsewhere in Class 4A, Homestead claimed their third straight sectional title with a 10-0 victory in five innings over South Side. Mason Weaver tossed a no-hitter, striking out nine in the five inning affair. The Spartans will face DeKalb in regionals on Saturday. Time and location is to be announced.
In Class 3A, Heritage won their first sectional title since 2015, taking the Sectional 21 title game over Concordia 6-4. The Patriots will face East Noble in regionals, after the Knights claimed their first sectional title since 1995 with a 5-0 victory over Fairfield in the Sectional 22 championship.
Norwell won its third straight sectional championship, taking down NE8 Conference foe Bellmont 14-0 in five innings to claim the Sectional 23 title. Brody Bolyn went 2-4 with a grand slam and five RBI in the win. The Knights will face New Castle in regionals.
Blackhawk Christian won its second sectional title in the past three seasons with an 8-4 victory over Lakewood Park in the Sectional 51 title game. Reese Tracy went 1-4 with two RBI in the win. Jake Jackson picked up the win, going five innings, allowing two runs and striking out six. He also went 1-4 with a home run and an RBI in the win. The Braves will face Southwood in regionals, after the Knights defeated Northfield in the Sectional 52 title game.
