A Fort Smith woman died Saturday at Lake Eufaula in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, after apparently suffering a medical event while on a pontoon boat being operated to check jug lines, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Sonya McCrea, 55, was pronounced dead about 5:10 p.m. Saturday at Lake Eufaula near the No. 9 south campgrounds about 8 miles east and 4 miles north of Canadian, Oklahoma.

McCrea was a passenger on a 2014 Godfrey Tritoon driven by Ryan David Williams, 37, of Fort Smith.

The other passengers on the boat were not injured: 18-year-old Tyler Green of Fort Smith, along with the following Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, residents, 33-year-old Nicholas Stanley, 33-year-old Kimberly Rutherford and three boys, ages 4, 13 and 14.

While the boat was being used to check jugs for fish, McCrea complained of having chest pains and collapsed, the highway patrol said.

Passengers aboard attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation as the boat pulled to the shore. Paramedics from Pafford EMS met the boat on the shore in the camping area, where McCrea was pronounced dead, the highway patrol said.
