Fort Scott businesses clean up after weekend floods
FORT SCOTT, Kan. — Communities across the four states affected by the deluge of rain this weekend are in clean-up mode. Among them is Fort Scott. Getting rid of the remnants of weekend flooding is what many businesses were doing on Tuesday, among them, the staff of Pete’s Convenience Store in the northern part of Ft Scott.
Gorillas sweep #5 Bronchos, claim MIAA crown
It has been a historic season for the Pitt State Gorillas, as they raced to a school record 49 wins, good enough for the second MIAA crown in school history. Not only did the Gorillas win, but they also culminated the season with a sweep of the #5 Bronchos in a doubleheader at home. Pitt State’s record currently stands as the best in all of Division II softball this season.

Here is a story of a life well lived, one that has never wavered from faith, family and duty – traveling upon many exciting avenues that eventually led back to home. Kenneth W. Lyon, known to most as Ken, was born in Fort Scott in 1934 to J.R. and Alice Lyon and was the youngest of 4 siblings. He grew up enjoying the small-town life and the simple pleasures that were offered. He had many interests that included science and aviation, and flew model airplanes as a child. This led to flying lessons at the local airport while attending Fort Scott High School, where he graduated in 1952.

Heavy flooding leaves parts of Fort Scott underwater
Fort Scott, KS – Fort Scott, Kansas is hit the hardest with flooding from the weekend storms. According to city officials, most of the flooding is north of town and along Highway 54 east towards Uniontown. Most of the clean-up around town should take less than a week.
