According to Fort Pierce Police, the victim reported their vehicle stolen around 5:32 p.m. from the 1300 block of North 25th Street.

A DEPUTY INJURED IN A CRASH IN JUPITER IS NOW HOME AND RECOVERING, ACCORDING TO THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE. INVESTIGATORS SAY THAT CRASH HAPPENED THURSDAY JUST BEFORE 5 A.M. ON INDIANTOWN ROAD ROAD. THAT’S WHEN A TRUCK HIT THE DEPUTY’S PATROL CAR. THEY SAY THE DEPUTY IS STILL IN PAIN BUT IS EXPECTED TO BE OKAY. THE OTHER DRIVER IN THAT CRASH IS ALSO STABLE, ALERT AND CONSCIOUS. BOTH CARS HAD SOME PRETTY SERIOUS DAMAGE. BACK IN OUR AREA, FIRST RESPONDERS AND A FIRE OFFICIALS CONTINUE TO MONITOR CONDITIONS OF THE HUNGRY LAND WILDFIRE IN MARTIN COUNTY. THE FIRE IS 100% CONTAINED, BUT CREWS WANT TO MAKE SURE IT STAYS THAT WAY. FIRST RESPONDERS ALSO REMINDING DRIVERS TO ROLL UP YOUR WINDOWS IF YOU’RE DRIVING THROUGH THE AREA WHILE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION, OFFICIALS SAY. THE DROUGHT HAS BEEN A MAJOR FACTOR. A CONTROVERSIAL PROPOSAL THAT WOULD ALLOW PEOPLE TO CARRY GUNS WITHOUT STATE CONCEALED WEAPONS LICENSES PASSED THE HOUSE THIS WEEK. PEOPLE WOULD BE ABLE TO CARRY CONCEALED FIREARMS WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE CURRENT LICENSING STEPS, INCLUDING UNDERGOING BACKGROUND SCREENING AND RECEIVING TRAINING. PARTS OF THE BILL ALSO SEEK TO BOLSTER SCHOOL SAFETY, INCLUDING BY PROVIDING MONEY FOR SCHOOL HARDENING AND ALLOWING ARMED GUARDIANS IN PRIVATE SCHOOLS. According to Fort Pierce Police, the victim reported their vehicle stolen around 5:32 p.m. from the 1300 block of North 25th Street.

About half an hour later, police attempted a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle.

The driver did not stop and fled the scene.

Coming Together: Project CommUNITY

In his flee, the vehicle ended up crashing into the canal at North 17th and Canal Terrance.

Police officers jumped into the canal to save the driver by taking life-saving measures.

The driver was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
