A crash between an SUV and pickup truck in Charlotte County at SR 31 and Bermont Road killed a 59-year-old Fort Myers woman, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The crash happened about 4:40 p.m. on Friday afternoon, Aug. 2.

According to FHP, the woman was traveling west in an SUV on Bermont Road toward the SR 31 intersection.

The pickup truck towing a trailer was going north on SR 31 approaching the same intersection.

The SUV failed to stop at a red light at the intersection, colliding with the pickup truck's right side. The SUV went into a water-filled ditch and struck a concrete light pole.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup driver, a 24-year-old man from Wadsworth, Ill., had minor injuries.

    Neither driver's name was released.

    The crash remains under investigation.
