    Oklahoma high school baseball: Storylines, players to watch at Class A-B state tournaments

    Fort Cobb-Broxton has competed in an Oklahoma high school spring baseball state championship game for the past three years.

    In 2021, Fort Cobb-Broxton rolled past Wister for the Class A title. After dropping to Class B, the Mustangs reached the 2022 finals against Roff and avenged that loss to win the 2023 state title .

    This week, can Fort Cobb-Broxton claim its third crown in four years? Although standout shortstop Jaxon Willits is now at OU , his sophomore brother, Eli Willits, continues to star for Fort Cobb-Broxton after a breakout freshman season.

    Top-ranked Fort Cobb-Broxton isn’t the only team vying for back-to-back titles. In Class A, Rattan aims for its second straight championship.

    Here’s a look at more storylines and players to watch in the Class A and B state baseball tournaments, which are set for Thursday-Saturday:

    Okarche seeks first state baseball title

    After celebrating one milestone in March, Okarche is looking for another.

    The Warriors won their second boys basketball championship, taking state for the first time since 1979. Now, Okarche is striving to claim its first state baseball title in program history, and it’s within reach. The Warriors have a talented group of athletes with several overlapping on the basketball and baseball teams.

    Okarche has defeated every Class A opponent this season except for Arapaho-Butler. If the teams meet again, it would happen in the state finals.

    Calumet returns to state

    Calumet is proving its appearance in last season’s Class B state tournament was not a fluke.

    After reaching the tournament for the first time in school history, Calumet is back. The second-ranked team dominated at districts and regionals, claiming a 22-0 win over 15th-ranked Hammon to return to state.

    Players to watch

    Hunter Arnold, Sr., Calumet: Arnold stood out in the regional finals with a triple and a home run. The leadoff hitter has a .485 batting average with four home runs and 44 runs scored.

    Mario Berumen, Jr., Navajo: Berumen leads Navajo with a .438 batting average. He has 34 RBIs and 32 hits, including six triples and two home runs.

    Shooter Boatright, Jr., Kiowa: Third in the batting order, Boatright is hitting .541 with 25 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .630.

    Dre’Von Colbert, Sr., Stuart: Colbert leads Stuart with a .448 batting average.

    Kaden Darnell, Sr., Roff: Darnell has a 1.40 ERA and a .314 batting average.

    Decker Davis, Jr., Arapaho-Butler: Davis, who is hitting .451, splits time between catcher and pitcher. On the mound, he has a 5-0 record with 31 strikeouts.

    Lane Greteman, Sr., Canute: The right-handed pitcher has an 8-0 record with a 0.60 ERA. He has tallied 53 strikeouts through 35 innings.

    Walt Kerr, Jr., Tushka: Kerr is 5-1 on the mound, and he has a .493 batting average.

    Easton Roby, So., Okarche: Roby is a versatile leader for Okarche. He pitches and plays shortstop and third base.

    Aidan Tomlinson, Jr., Dewar: The OU commit stars as Dewar's cleanup hitter, and he can also pitch.

    Davin Weller, Sr., Tupelo: Weller enters the tournament with a 9-1 record and a 0.73 ERA. The NOC-Tonkawa signee has struck out 80 through 47 innings.

    Eli Willits, So., Fort Cobb-Broxton: The OU commit is widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the state. Like his brother, Jaxon, Eli is a switch-hitting shortstop.
