Fort Bragg Home Destroyed, Dog Missing After Fire

[Video provided by a Mendocino County Coast resident]

A kitchen fire quickly grew out of control yesterday evening resulting in the total loss of a Fort Bragg home.

Fort Bragg Fire Department Chief Steve Orsi told us when his agency arrived on the 18000 block of Old Coast Highway around 9:30 p.m. the home was fully involved and the “fire was coming out of pretty much everywhere.”

The homeowners, a man and wife, were reportedly in for the evening when a fire ignited in the kitchen. Despite attempts to extinguish the fire, Chief Orsi said the home’s old-style construction of redwood and the lack of sheetrock caused the flames to spread rapidly consuming the home.

The home was completely destroyed as a result of the fire, according to Chief Orsi. Thankfully, the homeowners have insurance to help in the aftermath. The homeowners could not find their family dog but firefighters did not locate any remains at the scene. Chief Orsi hopes the dog ran away from the incident and will be found soon.

The local fire department was assisted by CALFIRE personnel with as many as twenty-two firefighters on the scene.

With all of the insurance cancellations, I hope they were insured. Just a cleanup could set one back 100g’s w/o insurance.

I am sorry the owners could not put out the fire in the kitchen that led to burning their home down. I pray they will find their dog safe and sound. Thank you, Fort Bragg Fire Department for trying your best, but it sounds like it was too far gone.
