MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It’s prom day in Forrest City Arkansas and leaders are making sure students have a safe and fun night.

Their prom is set to take place at the Forrest City Civic Center.

While juniors at Forrest City High School make sure the prom venue looks good, seniors are getting ready for the big night.

“My suit was made in Africa. I didn’t know if it was going to be here in time or not. It’s black and red and trimmed in velvet,” said Cagan Word, a senior at Forrest City High School. “I have to get a haircut. I have to pick up corsages, my boutonniere, I have to set up in my home for my prom sendoff. I have a lot to do today.”

As more than 100 students prepare for their prom night, Police Chief Ronald Broussard wants to make sure teens are responsible.

“No alcohol young people, no smoking, and no riding on the top of the car, you got to have your driver’s license and different things like that,” said Chief Broussard. “So, we are watching everything making sure our kids have a good safe time tonight.”

He says it’s supposed to be one of the best nights of your life not the last night of your life. Tickets and boots will be issued for those who do decide to break the rules.

Community members who just want to watch the fashion show also have rules.

“They can park in the back parking lot and leave the front parking lot open for the students. There will be an area that will be blocked off that police say will be enforced very strictly and as long as they stay behind the barricades everything will be fine,” said Kendall Ownes, a community member.
