Shooting victim’s death prompts Flatonia man’s arrest for murder

  • Michael McKim was back behind bars at Lavaca County Jail for the second time this month after the man he allegedly shot early Sunday, March 5, finally succumbed to his injuries a week ago today. McKim paid his bail and was released on the $100,000 bond set for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge earlier this month. He remains in custody currently on the $500,000 bond set for the murder charge.

  • Jason Pilat will be laid to rest Friday at the Shiner Catholic Cemetery, following a funeral mass at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church beginning at 1:30 p.m.  He died Friday, March 17, of injuries sustained in a shooting incident at his home early Sunday, March 5, just four days shy of his 48th birthday.

The Flatonia postmaster was booked into Lavaca County Jail Wednesday for the second time this month, on the charge of murder this time around, the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office said in a media release issued Thursday afternoon to social media.
