Get votes in for track and field athletes of the week for April 15-20

Get your votes in by noon Friday (see below) for high school track and field athlete of the week:

Mason Alexander, Hamilton Southeastern: The junior football standout won the 100-meter dash (10.74 seconds) and took second in the 200 (21.99) at the Dennis McNulty Invitational at Warren Central. Alexander also ran on the Royals’ winning 4x100-meter relay team (42.18 seconds).

Ian Baker, Brownsburg: The junior broke Brownsburg’s oldest school record in track and field by running a 9:07.18 in the 3,200 meters at the Carmel Showcase to finish fifth. The 44-year-old record was set by Mike Atkinson with a 9:12.55 in 1980.

Martin Barco, Martinsville: The senior won the competitive Carmel Showcase with a time of 8:48.20 in the 3,200 meters to edge Brebeuf Jesuit’s Cameron Todd (8:49.08).

Josiah Bird, Hamilton Southeastern: The Hamilton Southeastern senior swept the discus (174-4½) and shot put (54-0) at the Dennis McNulty Invitational at Warren Central.

Carsen Eloms, Fishers: The sophomore set a personal record in the 100 meters at the Charlie Riley Invitational (11.20 seconds) and ran on Fishers’ third-place 4x100-meter relay team (43.19 seconds).

Joel Gates, Fishers: The senior set a new school record in the discus with a throw of 183-9 to win the Charlie Riley Invitational.

Jackson Hartwell, Edinburgh: Hartwell, a junior, won the long jump at the Johnson County meet with a jump of 21-3.

Ava Jarrell, Pendleton Heights: The junior won the highly-competitive Carmel Showcase with a 10:11.87 in the 3,200 meters to edge Delta’s Nicki Southerland.

Andres Langston, Mt. Vernon: The Duke commit broke George Burhenn’s school record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 37.98 seconds in a meet against Fishers.

Lawrence North 4x100-meter boys relay team: The team of Monshun Sales, Damario Moore, Jerome Smith and Israel Jackson set a school record with a time of 41.48 seconds at the Charlie Riley Invitational to break the record set in 2002 of 41.59 seconds.

Hadley Lucas, Bloomington North: Lucas broke her school records in the discus (170-0) and shot put (50-11) last week. Those are also all-time state bests. The previous mark in the discus was set by Stacy Martin of Edgewood at 169-5.

Whiteland girls team: The Whiteland girls team won the Johnson County meet for the first time, outdistancing runner-up Center Grove 157 to 133. Center Grove had not lost at a county meet since 2003. Sophomore Elnora Stevenson won the long jump (18-6), the 100 (12.47 seconds), ran on the 4x100-meter relay team (49.03 seconds) and took second in the 200.

Ava Grace Winters, Lawrence North: The sophomore tied the school record in the 400 meters with a time of 56.42 seconds to win the Charlie Riley Invitational. She also ran on the Wildcats’ 4x400-meter relay team that finished fifth.
