Section of Route 322 Near State College to Be Closed for Emergency Bridge Repairs
A section of U.S. Route 322 in the Centre Region will be closed this week for emergency bridge repairs, according to PennDOT. Route 322 eastbound in Harris Township will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday for maintenance crews to complete what PennDOT described in a news release as "emergency deck repairs" to the bridge spanning Route 45. "A recent inspection of the bridge found new cracks in the concrete had exposed some of the rebar," Timothy Nebgen, PennDOT District 2 press officer, wrote in an email. "PennDOT already had a project to repair the deck surface programmed for later this season, however this new inspection and the discovery of the exposed rebar warranted completing these repairs immediately." Eastbound traffic (headed away from State College) will be detoured at the Old Fort exit and will follow Route 45 and Boal Avenue to reconnect with Route 322. The one-day closure will not affect westbound traffic. Work completed on Thursday "will improve safety and ride quality for motorists," according to the release.
