First Alert Day - Storms Likely This Morning Into the Afternoon
Staying unsettled with a few rain/storm chances into mid-week. Trending drier and cooler with highs in the 70s to wrap up the week. MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Today is now a First Alert Day as strong to severe storms will be possible. This morning, we are watching a storm complex back to our west in Iowa and Minnesota. The expectation is that these storms will congeal into a line that should move into southern Wisconsin during the mid to late morning hours, then exiting to the east during the early afternoon hours. The Storm Prediction Center has southern Wisconsin under a level ⅕ and level ⅖ risk for severe weather. The area with the highest threat level is in a line from La Crosse to Madison to Milwaukee southward. If storms become severe, strong wind gusts will be the main threat. Small hail and an isolated weak spin-up tornado cannot be ruled out, either.

Flood fallout continues, National Night Out is here
Institutions around Janesville continue to work in recovery from the April 17 flood that hit Rock County and much of southern Wisconsin. First Lutheran Church has been closed since the flooding - and may never return to its current building with plenty of damage to the facility - but kept its parking tradition for the Rock County 4-H Fair alive. Proceeds were down with a rainy weekend, but the church is thankful to those who paid to park. Meanwhile, the School District of Janesville plans to apply for a FEMA grant to pay for some of the costs of damage to Washington Elementary and other facilities. State and local funds will also contribute. After cyber attacks to water systems in neighboring states, municipalities across Wisconsin - including right here in Rock County - are on the lookout. National Night Out is here. Law enforcement and other public safety personnel will participate in events celebrating community and trust . Do you have a story you'd like the Gazette to follow?
