State Police said the victim of a Fayette County shooting has died and charges for an Indiana couple may be upgraded to first-degree murder.
Michelle Dawn Smith, 41, of Fayetteville died Friday of injuries sustained in a shooting in Oak Hill, according to a news release from West Virginia State Police. Investigators said Smith was found in a vehicle at the Plateau Medical Center in February 2023 handcuffed and suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
The news release said an autopsy will be performed and charges for two suspects connected to the shooting are expected to be upgraded.
State Police report Andres Minorune Torres, 27, and Amanda D. Soultz, 30, both of Goshen, Indiana are facing multiple charges stemming from a probation violation including kidnapping, attempted first-degree murder, robbery and conspiracy.
Investigators said Torres and Soultz were arrested in Raleigh County and found to be in possession of three pistols the victim’s credit cards.
Jail records indicate the pair is being held at Southern Regional Jail on $250,000 surety/cash bails.
