Two times, no go.

Ron Holland, a 6-foot-8 forward ranked No. 1 in the country in the Class of 2023 twice had Arkansas as a finalist for his destination next season. Neither time panned out.

That’s because on Wednesday, just before lunch, Holland announced he would play the 2023-24 season in the NBA’s G League. The Duncanville native had decommitted from Texas about a week ago, fueling Razorbacks’ fans hopes he may choose Arkansas after initially having the Hogs in his group of finalists months ago.

Instead, Holland will take the path of Scott Henderson, Amen Thompson, Ausar Thompson, three players who didn’t play college basketball last year and instead turned professional. The G League is considered the American pro stepping stone to the NBA for those who choose not to play in college.

Chances Holland would commit to Arkansas were slim, anyway, and most are more intrigued by the decisions to come from guard Devo Davis and forward Jordan Walsh. They both could return for another season in Fayetteville, but have only until just before midnight Wednesday to do so.
