FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas may have landed a pretty good transfer guard with only a year's eligibility left and even Razorbacks coach Eric Musselman is welcoming him to Fayetteville ... not the Hogs, but the town, which could be a fine line around any gray areas.

Former Louisville guard El Ellis entered the transfer portal to look at his options for the NBA Draft, but Saturday answered a social media post announcing it that he was headed to town.

It didn't take long for Hogs coach Eric Musselman to respond to the good news with a "Welcome to Fayetteville!" social media post. Now, technically, Ellis is not saying he's coming to the Hogs and Musselman is just welcoming him to town with some good ol' Southern hospitality. Except CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein had a little clearer social message just minutes earlier.

With Louisville last year he had 17.7 points, 4.4 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. He played 89.9 percent of the possible minutes on the season and earned All-ACC Honorable Mention honors. A four-star prospect with a player rating of 0.9200 in the 247Sports Transfer Portal Rankings, he picked the Hogs over a long list of high-major teams chasing him.

Ellis was the No. 1 ranked junior college prospect in the country out of the 2021 class, according to 247Sports. He was named a two-time NJCAA All-American and earned back-t0-back Panhandle Conference Player of the Year honors at Tallahassee Community College. In his two seasons, he averaged more than 15.5 points per game and shot better than 40 percent from long distance.

The Hogs will have a big turnover in the backcourt with Keyon Menifield (Washington), Tramon Mark (Houston), Khalif Battle (Temple) and Jeremiah Davenport (Cincinnati). Arkansas' transfer class ranks No. 3 in the nation, according to 247Sports.
