Now We Can Focus on Hogs' Spring Football

Three practices every week through April 15 probably won't answer questions

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Get ready, because the football side of things is fixing to get busy.

After a week off for spring break, Arkansas will be back on the practice fields on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday every week through April 15. That's when the Red-White Game will be played inside Razorback Stadium.

The introductions should be complete by now with a whole slew of new faces playing and coaches.

The only holdover position coaches from coach Sam Pittman's initial staff are running backs coach Jimmy Smith and special teams coach Scott Fountain. Everybody else is new.

The new assistants are tight ends coach Morgan Turner, secondary coach Deron Wilson, co-defensive coordinator/secondary coach Marcus Woodson, defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Travis Williams and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Dan Enos.

With new coordinators comes new installation of the offense and defense, much of which is going to be new to everyone, not just the newcomers.

"There will be situational install with goal line and short yardage and all that kind of stuff," Pittman said. "As far as the offense, defense, I imagine we'll be done with about five practices left in spring."

Simply put, that will be 10 practices for install stuff and five days left to get on tape what all they picked up and what they didn't.

Listing all the new players would take forever. With another transfer portal window opening May 1 through the 15th that might just be one of the wildest ones we've seen.

Players will be coming and going everywhere, which is why I keep saying there is no way we're going to get all the answers for the coming season because we really won't know the questions probably until sometime in August.

Until then, it will be speculation.
