Albert Gallatin School District dismisses students early due to teacher's death
Officials with the Albert Gallatin School District sent home all district students early on Tuesday.
This was due to the sudden passing of a teacher in the district, officials said. A letter from Superintendent Christopher Pegg identified the teacher as Toby Maykuth.
Pegg said Maykuth was a kindergarten teacher at Smithfield Elementary School. He was also the director of the district's musical and drama department.
The cause and manner of Maykuth's death are unclear.
The high school was dismissed at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. The middle school dismissed at 11:45 a.m., and the elementary school dismissed students at 12:30 p.m.
Pegg said therapists, social workers and counselors would be available for all district students for the remainder of the school year.
The district says that Smithfield Elementary School was closed again on Wednesday.
