Firefighters, police safely evacuate residents, pets from raging fire that destroyed condos in Farmington Hills [PHOTOS]

FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - Emergency crews wasted no time pounding on residents' doors and getting them to safety after an early morning blaze engulfed a condo complex in Farmington Hills over the weekend.

Police Chief Jeff King and Fire Chief Jon Unruh both said in an update to social media how proud they were of "the bravery shown by these first responders," who managed to get residents, both young, old and four-legged, out of the smoke-filled building.

According to the Farmington Hills Fire Department, the blaze broke out in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 12, at the the Country Glen Condos located at 30535 14 Mile Road, between Northwestern Hwy. and Middlebelt Road.

As firefighters and police arrived at the scene, they discovered the fire had ripped through the third floor of the complex. The officers began going door-to-door on each floor and began emergency evacuations of all residents in the building.

The police department shared some body came footage of the rescue, as well as photos of extensive damage to the building.

"Officers assisted elderly residents who had difficulty moving through the smoke-filled hallways and got them out of the burning building," the fire department stated. "Several officers even re-entered the building to rescue a family dog left behind in an evacuated unit."

Officials said fire crews and police got everyone safely out of the complex as it went up in flames.

"The dedication of these first responders ensured the successful evacuation of the building and saved the lives of numerous individuals," the fire department said.

No injuries were reported. Some of the police officers were treated for smoke inhalation, but none have needed additional medication attention.

Chief King said the actions taken by police and fire crews at the scene only "highlights their professionalism and underscores the dangers they face in the line of duty."

"This incident is yet another example of the exceptional public safety services that the City of Farmington Hills provides to its residents each day," the department added.
