On and off rain combined with wind, and it looked like it was going to be a tough day for scoring on Monday night at the Faribault Golf club, where the Falcons were hosting Mankato East and top Big 9 team Albert Lea.

Surprisingly, two players played par or better. Albert Lea, a powerhouse in the Big 9, won the event with a combined four golfers who qualify for the final score of 311, Faribault finished second just five strokes back at 316, and Mankato East was last at 338.

In only their second Big 9 meet and third overall meet of the year, Faribault continues to make steady progress, posting their lowest total so far in tough conditions Monday.

Coach Tim McNelis was happy with the overall results.

“We had some really good scores in very strong winds,” he said.

Albert Lea’s Archie Nelson and Faribault’s Logan Peroutka each had a great meet, both under par going into hole 16. Nelson was able to take honors with the low score, shooting a four under par 68.

Peroutka finished second at an even par 72 on his home course. Peroutka had birdied hole 15 to put him one under par. He then knocked in a par at hole 16 but bogeyed 17 and 18 to finish at 72.

Senior Ethan Amundson notched his second score of the year in the 70s, shooting a 79 for second best among the Falcons and fourth overall in the triangular. It was a strong finish for the senior, who has progressed into one of the top golfers for the Falcons.

All of Faribault’s golfers had qualifying scores for the round. Oliver Linnemann’s score of 81 was used for the third qualifying score. Leighton Anderson, Parker Morrow and Micah Lenway all tied for the fourth qualifying score of 84, used for total team score of 316 for the Falcons.

This triangular ended up being the last home meet for the Falcons and their seniors. They will now be on the road for the remainder of the year with away golf events.

On April 24, Faribault will travel to Mankato to participate in the All Big 9 mid-season tournament.
