On Thursday, Faribault boys tennis hosted Big 9 Conference rival Rochester Mayo, currently ranked No. 2 in the state behind No. 1 Wayzata.

Mayo is a talented team with a lot of skills and abilities and a lot of depth throughout their team, including one player who is ranked No. 1 in the state overall and two others ranked in the top 10 as well.

Coach Anderson said, “Mayo is expected to be untouchable in the Big 9 Conference and is positioned to be able to challenge the teams like Wayzata and Edina at state this season.”

The Spartans shared with Faribault just how good they are, winning the meet 7-0.

While the Falcons were able to win some games throughout the matches, Mayo was just too strong and consistent for Faribault to affect.

Faribault’s top two singles players, No. 1 Brandon Petricka and No. 2 Carsen Kramer, were able to stay in many points and challenge their opponents with good strategy and ball movement.

The No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams also held their own on many points throughout their matches with each team picking up a couple of games.

But overall, Mayo’s aggressive hitting, along with strong serving and well placed shots, was just too much for Faribault.

Faribault will host Section 1AA opponent Lakeville South on Monday, April 22 with matches starting at 4 p.m.

Below is the overall individual and doubles results.
