On September 7, 2023, Megan Lowery, age 36, of Morganton, Laura Kilgo, age 55, Ooltewah, TN, and Amanda Lang, age 41, of Blue Ridge were arrested following an investigation into the selling of pressed fentanyl pills.

The Gist: Three women were arrested in Fannin County after a traffic stop uncovered a significant stash of suspected fentanyl pills. What Happened?: Megan Lowery, 36, Laura Kilgo, 55, and Amanda Lang, 41, were pulled over on Highway 5 in McCaysville for a traffic violation. According to the GBI, the stop led to the discovery of hundreds of suspected fentanyl pills. Further digging pointed to a Tennessee home as the source, where a subsequent raid resulted in 10 more arrests.

Good morning, watch for valley fog this morning, especially in Cherokee, Polk, and Fannin Counties. Additionally, there will be sporadic morning showers. Today will be partly sunny, muggy, and very warm to hot. Highs will range from 85-91. Rain and storm chances have increased slightly for later today. Overall, activity will be scattered, but within these scattered storms, a couple may become strong to severe this late afternoon through the evening. There is a Level 1 Marginal Risk for most of our communities for damaging wind gusts possible. The chances for severe storms are low, but the greatest risk will be for Grundy, Marion, and Jackson Counties. We may have to move into Storm Alert Weather Day mode later today.
