DPS: Three dead, two injured in Falls County crash

FALLS COUNTY, Texas (FOX 44/KWKT) – UPDATE: Three people are dead and two more are injured after a crash in Falls County.

Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded at approximately 3:53 p.m. Friday to a fatal crash on Highway 77 – approximately 0.7 miles west of Chilton. The preliminary investigation determined that a Fiat 500 traveling northbound hydroplaned, which caused the vehicle to enter the southbound lane and crash into a Lexus RX. The driver of the Fiat was ejected.

The driver of the Fiat has been identified as 50-year-old Sherrie Holt, of Chilton. Holt and the passenger of the Fiat were pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger of the Lexus has been identified as 41-year-old Michelle McCoy, of Arlington – who was also pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants of the Lexus were transported to Baylor Scott and White in Waco to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Next of kin have been notified for two of the deceased.

Texas DPS says the crash shut down the highway for several hours. When FOX 44 News arrived at the scene, there were more than have a dozen DPS and fire department vehicles. The roadway has since been reopened.

The investigation is active and ongoing. FOX 44 News will have more information as it becomes available.
