Missing Corvallis hiker airlifted to safety
CORVALLIS, Ore. – A Corvallis man reported missing last Wednesday was located and airlifted to safety on Thanksgiving Day, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s deputies said that the 77-year-old victim, who went mushroom hunting off of Botkin Road west of Philomath, was reported missing by a family member at about 9:30 p.m. on November 22. A search operation consisting of Mary’s Peak Search and Rescue, the Corvallis Mountain Rescue Unit, and Region 3 K9 Search and Rescue began searching for the man that same evening, continuing on November 23 with assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard and sheriff’s offices from Linn, Lane, and Polk counties, BCSO officials said. Sheriff’s officials said the man was found at about 3:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day down a steep drainage near a creek.
