Three outstanding athletes were inducted into the 2026 James Kenan High School Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 10. From left are Jeffrey Wallace, Stephanie Player and Stedman Mathis. Wallace helped lead the Tigers to the Class 2A east final in 1960. Known as “Miss Inside” by her teammates, Player led James Kenan to three consecutive Class 1A eastern regional appearances from 2000-2002 in girls’ basketball. The Tigers advanced to the regional final in 2002. Mathis toted the pigskin in 2006 and 2007 for Kenan, which appeared in the Class 1AA state finals both seasons.
