CLARKSBURG, W. Va. (WV News) — Robert C. Byrd had very little trouble extending its win streak to three straight by scoring 15 runs in the second inning to take a 20-2 victory in three innings over East Fairmont during Big 10 Conference softball action Thursday night at RCB Field.
The Eagles (3-1) scored five runs in the first inning on three hits and took advantage of wildness on the part of EF starter Sophia Stevens with five wild pitches for a 5-1 lead.
Ava Junkins and Tori Anderson each had RBI singles, while Avery Childers had an RBI ground out in the first inning. The final two runs scored on wild pitches.
Robert C. Byrd batted around twice sending 21 batters to the plate scoring 15 runs on eight hits, while also getting more help from Stevens with eight wild pitches, two passed balls and two hit batters.
Childers and Kaitlyn Fordyce each had two-run singles, while Lexi Hardy, Martina Howe and Khloe McAvoy each had RBI singles. Kayli Thompson also had an RBI single and drove in another run with a sacrifice fly.
“We hit the ball really well today and I liked the fact that the younger players coming off the bench hit the ball hard,” Robert C. Byrd coach Mary Mayer said.”We have now won three games in a row, the girls are playing with a lot of confidence and it shows with everyone on the team with the spirit of coming to the ball park.”
Anderson was the benefactor of all the run production going two innings to get the win giving up two runs on two hits, while striking out three and walking two. Makenzie Davis came on in relief to toss one shut out inning.
The Bees (0-4) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Marissa Delbrook reached base on a fielder’s choice. She went to third on a Gracie Snyder single to right center and scored on a RCB error.
After that it was all Eagles with the two big innings.
Junkins led Robert C. Byrd’s 11-hit attack going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI. Childers went 1-for-2 with three RBIs, while Fordyce and Thompson came off the bench to drive in two runs each.
Snyder and Bella Talerico each had singles for the Bees only two hits of the game.
