The LGBTQ community celebrated gay pride Saturday in Fairhope.
The third annual Color Fairhope with Pride event was held near the Fairhope pier. Hundreds of people came out.
Various vendors sold merchandise, there were health booths set up and food and music.
Organizers with prism united say it was a day to celebrate people for who they are.
The Color Fairhope with Pride events continue Sunday with a drag show brunch. It is not open to the public and it's being held at a private venue where tickets are required.
That drag show, along with today's event created quite a stir for some in the Fairhope community.
A group called Keep Fairhope Family Friendly organized a rally today at Bluff Park.
Many opposed to the LGBTQ event held signs protesting.
Scott Cantino with the Faith Family Coalition said the gay lifestyle is not family-friendly. Cantino says human rights campaigns and the business community are creating an environment targeting the family unit.
Catino told the crowd Mobile mayor Sandy Stimson sent a wrong message to his city by adding a pair of LGBTQ liaisons to his administration.
