FCFRD said crews responded to Rainwater Landfill in the 9900 block of Richmond Highway around 11 p.m. Monday. The landfill is mainly logs and brush, officials said.
As of 12:26 p.m., the fire is under control after crews worked overnight to contain the large fire.
Officials said fire trucks were seen going in and out of the area to refill because there is no access to fire hydrants inside the landfill.
The fire department said smoke was visible from Route 1 and Interstate 95. Due to the heavy smoke, HazMat units conducted atmospheric monitoring, and all readings are within normal levels.
