HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 28-year-old woman was killed in a crash in Ewa Beach early Sunday morning, said the Honolulu Fire Department.

Crews were called to the scene near Iroquois Road and West Loch Drive around 3 a.m.

According to a witness, the woman had sped pass him before going off the road and plowing into a tree.

Fire officials needed to use hydraulic tools to extricate the driver, who was alone in the car.

Honolulu police said the woman was not wearing her seat belt.

HPD said speed appears to be a factor in the crash. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are factors.

This is the 27th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 23 during the same time last year.

The investigation is ongoing.
