Once again the City of Mountlake Terrace will be hosting the 3rd of July Family Celebration at Ballinger Park, 23000 Lakeview Dr., Mountlake Terrace. This year’s festivities will begin at 6 p.m. and will include live music, a DJ and food trucks. A fireworks display over Lake Ballinger will be the highlight of the event when darkness falls at approximately 10 p.m.

On Tuesday, Edmonds Parks and Recreation staff (Eric and Tim in back row) led a group of seven Edmonds Floretum Garden Club volunteers in planting several hundred flowers in the corner beds at Walnut Street and 5th Avenue South. This is one of fourcooperative corner planting events scheduled for this year.

Registration now open for free family event in Lynnwood June 24. If you were walking, biking or driving past Lynnwood Elementary School on a sunny Saturday morning last June, you might have seen a curious sight — kids, parents, dogs, face painters, an ice cream truck and more — all excited to be at school on a weekend! Why were they there and why were they so happy about it? It was the event that satisfies the “need for speed” for kids of all abilities — the Rotary Challenge Series Race — and registration is now open for this year’s event! My grandson and I have been part of the event since the beginning and we look forward to it every year.

The 2024 City of Edmonds budget season is just around the corner, and the Edmonds City Council wants to hear from the community how to prioritize city spending. The process started in April at a budget retreat for city staff, the mayor and councilmembers. Last month, the council approved the 2024 budget planning calendar and now will turn its focus to identifying priorities for the 2024 budget. The council plans to communicate these priorities to the mayor and city staff in July, as their work begins on building the budget.
