The Evansville Dust Bowl, an Evansville tradition, is back next week.

Started in the 1990s at Bellemeade Park, it gave adult street ball players a chance to compete for bragging rights and a trophy. Now, the event features levels for different ages to participate.

Here's everything you need to know about this year's Dust Bowl.

Why is it called the Dust Bowl?

Historically, the Dust Bowl name came from the original dirt basketball courts that players would use. Although the court was eventually paved, the name stuck.

Where is the Dust Bowl taking place this year?

Following tradition, the Dust Bowl will be at Bellemeade Park located at 750 Bellemeade Ave. The first round will kick off on June 17 and championship games and final rounds will occur on June 22.

Who can participate in the competition?

While registration is already closed, spectators can expect to see teams for sixth to eighth grade, ninth to 12th grade, and adult participants.

Other than watching the games, what else is available to do?

Organizers have mentioned that vendors and food trucks will be on location providing food and products. People interested in a vendor license for the event must register at EvansvilleDustBowl.com/vendors before June 14.

Can I volunteer? Where can I find more information?

Yes, volunteer options are open. From Referees to Runners to Clean Up crew, the options are endless. Sign-up is available at evansvilledustbowl.com/volunteer .
