EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — New details have been released after one person was arrested in connection to a deadly crash in Evansville.

Jared A. Reed, 32, was arrested after Muhammad Khan, 21, was killed in a three-vehicle accident that happened on April 20.

The crash happened on the Lloyd Expressway near Fielding Road.

According to court documents, a witness told police they saw Reed’s vehicle going about 100 mph before the crash. Another person told police they saw Reed’s vehicle speed into the intersection at 100 mph and hit Khan’s vehicle. Police said another witness saw Reed driving on the shoulder “as fast as the vehicle could go.”

Police said there were also several 911 calls reporting someone driving recklessly on the Lloyd Expressway.

A third vehicle was also hit during the crash, sending it into a utility pole. That driver was taken to the hospital. Police said their ankle seemed to be fractured.

Khan died at the scene.

Police said Reed was also taken to the hospital with injuries. While at the hospital, police said Reed told them he was going 120 mph before the crash. According to documents, Reed had trouble answering some questions and was saying things about “cyberattacks” and that he was heading to the Pentagon before the crash. Police said Reed also stated that the vehicle he was driving at the time was “property of the U.S. government.”

Documents said a previous police alert showed Reed “is prone to schizophrenia” and “hallucinations.” It said he also “believes he is a high-ranking military member.”

Police said they got data from Reed’s Dodge Charger, which showed it was going between 106.3 and 115.2 mph at the time of the crash.

Reed faces several charges including reckless homicide. His bond was set at $25,000 cash.
